The Gosford City Council has released the long awaited draft plan for the Hardys
Bay foreshore for public comment. The plan covers the foreshore area along
Araluen Drive from the intesection of Heath Road, past the shopping area at Killcare
Road to the intersection of Hardys Bay Parade.
The plan for the foreshore is divided into five Precincts.
- Precinct 1 - Intersection with Heath Road.
- Precinct 2 - Heath Road to Killcare Road
- Precinct 3 - Intersection with Killcare Road
- Precinct 4 - Killcare Road to Stanley Street
- Precinct 5 - Stanley Street to Hardys Bay Parade

Precinct 1 - Intersection with Heath Road.

- Improve access for pedestrians through Heath Rd Intersection. Three options:
A. Install large roundabout, upgrade culvert, reclaim land, remove
mangroves, provide shared path near seawall, install new playground on reclaimed
land
B. Install small roundabout, upgrade culvert, provide shared path near
seawall, install new playground on existing land
C. Install large roundabout, upgrade culvert, remove mangroves,
provide shared path which starts adjacent to seawall and crosses over to parallel
parking, install new playground on reclaimed land. Introduce 40kph zone

Precinct 2 - Heath Road to Killcare Road.

- Provide top dressing and grading to park and repair scouring behind seawall
- Provide indigenous/native trees for shade without obstructing residents' waterviews
- Provide shared path from Heath Road to Public Jetty. Two locations options:
A. and B. Path adjacent to seawall.
C. Path adjacent to road
- Provide additional parking on north side of Araluen drive. Two options:
A. and C. 45 parallel and 15 angled parking
B. 54 parallel parking spaces
- Clearly defined road boundary on Araluen Drive.
- Provide children's playground equipment
- Introduce 40kph zone
- Introduce "No Parking" restrictions on south side of Araluen Drive for options
B. and C
- Introduce hedge protection at selected locations- ie for pump station
- Provide step acces to small beach and tidy up boats

Precinct 3 - Intersection with Killcare Road.
- Retain existing toilet block
- Introduce 40kph zone
- Relocate seawall into Brisbane Water and reclaim land
- Upgrade footpath to shared path and relocate to area of reclaimed land
- Provide timber platform with seating around Yum Yum trees
- Provide bus stop on South side of Araluen Drive near Killcare Drive
- Provide pedestrian crossings at intersection. Pedestrian movements from
crossing on western side of timber platform

Precinct 4 - Killcare Road to Stanley Street.

Construct shared path against seawall from Killcare Rd to Blythe Stt.
- Maintain
use of existing turning point.
Note: Killcare Marina Patrons will have to cross the shared path
- Introduce 40kph zone
Precinct 5 - Stanley Street to Hardys Bay Parade
- Construct shared path against graded verge on west side of road between Blythe
Street and Noble Rd / Hardys Bay Parade
- Extend / upgrade bridge at Hardys Bay Pde, reclaim land to accomodate road widening
and shared path.
- Introduce 40kph zone

Fitness equipment both gym and outdoor are to be located along the foreshore.
Council have asked for public submissions by 14th December 2007 and have provided
a questionaire that allows respondants to indicate the options they prefer and add
any other comments. Click

The Hardys Bay Residents Group will review the proposal and will schedule a special
meeting of members to consolidate our response to council. To enable us to
